Just got BT Infinity installed, and I'm attempting to setup the Wi-Fi for use on a computer. I've followed the instructions, I think, but I can't get the PC to connect. My laptop connects fine to wireless, but the dongle refuses to allow connection. It connects fine via Ethernet cable but when I try to install the dongle, it does nothing. The only instructions I can find are at, but these don't work. The instructions on the leaflet that came with it don't help either.
On the dongle, I get the green power light but the wireless light doesn't light. There's also no sign of a wireless light on the hub. When I try and install the drivers by downloading them from, the Windows 7 version downloads, looks as though it is installing, but fails simply telling me 'Device driver software was not successfully installed. Consult with your device manufacturer' Any ideas? If it is a BT Dual-Band Wi-Fi Dongle 600 I have one of these and although it gave me problems on 5GHz it worked fine on 2.4Ghz. I did have trouble with the install and initially tried to download it from the wrong place.
If you use the link that is shown in the instructions there are a number of drivers for the different operating systems. I am not sure which OS you have got but it might be worth trying to install in compatibility mode. Of course you could have a dud and you will have to send it back and get it replaced.
Best Wifi Dongle
This may be a silly even rude reply but why do you need it if your PC is convenient to the router and you can connect with Ethernet you will get better and more reliable results than WiFi will ever give you. I do not have a Homehub 4 but I think that the WiFi light should be on showing it is available all the previous hubs show the light when working, I would try a reset on the hub and see if the 'Wireless' light comes on. WRONG the HH4 only has the Wireless light on if there is a problem, assuming the power light is blue everything is OK. The only other thing I can suggest is if you have a cd drive then use the setup cd before you plug in the dongle and see if that works. I am not sure this makes any difference but this is what the instructions say. I have looked everywhere but this does not seem to be a listed problem I would phone 0808 100 6116 (a free number from BT lines) they may be able to help and identify if the dongle is faulty.
Bob, not a rude question. It's just a case of logistics. The hub is in the living room, where the phone socket is. The pc is in the office, which is next door.
The plan, longer term, is put an Ethernet faceplate in the office and wire it up via that. However, there is some work to be done before that.
No Bt Dongle
So, in the interim, I want to use it wirelessly in the office. There was no installation disk with it. It came in a jiffy bag, and that was it. I've reset the router a couple of times and restarted the pc a number of times but no jot.
Looks like I'll have to call them.
